Russell and Melda Strickland

Russell and Melda Strickland

Throughout their lives together, Russell and Melda Strickland of Black Oak, Arkansas, understood the worth of team camaraderie and a quality education, and how those attributes can contribute to personal success. This knowledge drove them to be strong supporters of Arkansas State University and the Buffalo Island Central (BIC) school district in Monette. When these accomplished Arkansans died — he in 2012 and she a year later — they bestowed a large piece of land to help the institutions they loved better serve students. "Russell and Melda knew the value of a quality education," said Philip Jackson, Arkansas State University Real Estate Foundation secretary. "By including A-State in their final plans, they left a wonderful legacy ensuring students at BIC will have the opportunity to reap the benefits of a university education."
